About the Fairfield PHAB
Fairfield PHAB is a voluntary organisation, that aims to meet the objectives set by PHAB Ltd. Our team has been
together since 2006. Fairfield PHAB is open to young people both with and without disabilities who are aged between the
ages of 8 and 18. We welcome members from across the Liverpool area who believe they would like to be part of Fairfield
PHAB.
PHAB Ltd is a national charity that works in a practical and active way to promote and encourage people with
and without physical disability to come together on equal terms, to achieve complete inclusion in the wider community. PHAB Ltd achieves
this in a variety of ways including the organisation of regional meetings and events, training programmes and holidays.
Several of our PHAB Team have been involved with
PHAB for over 15 years, we believe the life experiences of our team are important factors in allowing the Fairfield PHAB to
progress. We have a strong team who are fully committed in developing Fairfield PHAB and help establish our club within the
Liverpool community. In July 2008, we agreed a deal with L'Arche
Liverpool to use their premises as our new base and meeting place for Fairfield PHAB. We were previously located at St
John's Community Centre until December 2007.
The History of Fairfield PHAB
During
the late 80's and early 90's and under the leadership of Alice McMurray, Fairfield PHAB enjoyed a very successful
era. During the mid 90's the Fairfield PHAB closed down. In 2005, whilst working at St John's Community Centre,
the former meeting place for Fairfield PHAB, ex-member Phil Peel was asked to re-establish PHAB within the Kensington and
Fairfield area of Liverpool, and in January 2006 the all new St John's PHAB opened it's doors for the very first
time, under the leadership of Phil Peel.
In 2007, it
was announced that St John's Community Centre would be closing down, this provided a dilemma for the PHAB Team and it
was decided that PHAB would remain open, but would revert back to the original name of Fairfield PHAB. After 6 long
months from December 2007 til June 2008, PHAB would not run any sessions and would basically cease to exist. Eventually
in July 2008, all the hard work had paid off, we found new premises and we managed to keep the same PHAB Team in place.
